I think you miss the point of the article, which is that the habit of Bahamians of returning home has actually hurt our culture, and has also hurt our cultural practitioners. This is the only major country in the Caribbean where the only cultural people who can be assured of making a living doing what they have been gifted to do are artists. Writers, actors, singers and other musicians have to choose other professions -- or leave. The longer that continues, the poorer we will be culturally.

but what does that say about a country who encourages their people to leave? it can't support them?

Or it chooses not to. If Cuba can support its cultural people, surely The Bahamas can.
